The rubber nut consists of a rubber sleeve with a vulcanised brass nut at one end. The other end has been pressed into a flange that keeps the rubber nut in place.
When the screw is tightened, the nut compresses, fitting tight to the walls of a hole in a solid piece or forming a “ball” behind the plate if there is free space.
